Copy color effect to other text - PBog - 02-19-2025 Hello, I am not that experienced with GIMP and am facing following "problem": On the internet, I found a picture with a name written on it in a kind of "calligraphy" style with a nice "ink look". (see picture attached) [attachment=13107] I would like to copy the same effect ("calligraphy ink") on some text/name I have in my own design. Off course, I chose a font representing the calligraphic look, but the color is always "flat". I would need/like to apply the "ink look" on to my font. Does anyone have any idea how to achieve this? I have played around with gathering the color pallete of the original and applying this as a gradient, but this didn't work out as I would like to. The effect still remained a "gradient" (logically) whereas I am looking for the "ink look". Thanks a lot. On possible technique is to paint the text over with a fade gradient.

When you stroke the path, each calligraphic stroke is actually stroked twice, once along each border because the path follows the outline of the stroke. This is why the soft brush is useful because it makes a nice transition between the two actual strokes. There is also a third way(*) where you create a middle-line path and stroke it (so each calligraphic stroke is only stroked once) (*) [attachment=13110] RE: Copy color effect to other text - rich2005 - 02-19-2025 I cant get anything much like the original example or as nice as Ofnuts example. I tried to make a Gimp "animated" brush - a gih (gimp image hose) with limited success. https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-using-animated-brushes.html Looks like this: [attachment=13111] Whatever method, do experiment with the brush dynamics. Pressure options no good for a mouse but velocity tapering works and try out Smooth Stroke as well. My guess is the original was done with a tablet and maybe a Vector application. Just as example: the gih brush attached, Unzip and put in your brushes folder. RE: Copy color effect to other text - denzjos - 02-19-2025 I used G'MIC-Qt / Artistic / Felt Pen on a Andrea font text and then made some layer copies using Multiply mode. I will go and experiment with the different options raised here. I keep you updated. |
