About the AddonCollectionManager Plugin in Gimp 3 - saberwarthog - 03-21-2025 Hello ! I got a question about a Python plugin (&I hope i'm in the good subsection for that...). I've been using the AddonCollectionManager in Gimp 2.14 before turning to Gimp 3, I got quite a lot of brushes/patterns/fonts, so this was extremely useful. But with the change to Python 3 in Gimp 3, it's logical that this plugin is no longer working (plus it's quite old, from the script itself it seems that it's from 2013 & based on GURM ?). I've seen that @Ofnuts has worked on it for a rewrite & clean up in 2013, but is there any hope for someone to try making it work in Gimp 3 ? I could try my hand at it, but I'm not familiar at all with Python, So that could be quite the journey here ^^° (BTW, Thanks a lot for the plugins I can find here, there's a lot of things to try !) RE: About the AddonCollectionManager Plugin in Gimp 3 - Ofnuts - 03-22-2025 I'll eventually convert to Gimp3. No date yet, but I have a dozen or so of scripts that are a lot more popular. RE: About the AddonCollectionManager Plugin in Gimp 3 - rich2005 - 03-22-2025 I will add a plus to that request, AddonCollectionManager continually in use with Gimp 2.10. Looking at Gimp 3.0, I do not suppose that scripts will refresh and work (not that there are any / many scripts around at the moment). As a work-around, I suggest a manual option. A dedicated two-pane file manager. This one DoubleCommander appimage. It remembers the last used folders. Keep it just for this use. OK, by popular request, nudging it up in the conversion queue (but not to the top). Would still work on script-fu scripts but not script-fu plug-ins (since we can now have both in v3). RE: About the AddonCollectionManager Plugin in Gimp 3 - rich2005 - 03-22-2025 Yes, that is what I was inferring, Is there a way to refresh scripts, from the Gimp 3.0 menu, without having to restart Gimp ? RE: About the AddonCollectionManager Plugin in Gimp 3 - saberwarthog - 03-22-2025 Thanks a lot for your answer ! (and your hard work, the layers plugins are great !) I'm not in a hurry personalty, I have worked without the addon manager for years, but like a lot of other plugins, it's quite addictive very quickly once you get used to them. XD Plus from what I can understand from the code of the 2.10 / 2.14 version, it uses a lot more modules that are not unique to the Gimp & it manipulate home folders, so that can be tricky to get it right I imagine. If I end up being impatient, I'll start learning Python 3 & try my hand at it, that will always be useful to learn ! ^^ RE: About the AddonCollectionManager Plugin in Gimp 3 - vitforlinux - 03-24-2025 A .gex format is provided for extensions, and a site to download them, for those who are not able to put scripts in the scripts folder, and plugins in the plugins folder is a good idea. Above all, it helps to understand that scripts need to be updated. For programmers a gamble... https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/13070 |
