Save Rectangle Size - DennisV - 04-25-2025
I paste an image (of text) using 'Create From Clipboard' then use a (rounded) rectangle to cutout and copy just the area I'm interested in. Then 'Create From Clipboard' a new image from the rectangle cutout.
I always make the rectangle left side 423 and the width is always 1050. The top and height will vary.
I do this several times a day and it would be nice in the first step if I could click something and have a pre-sized rectangle appear on top of the just pasted image. Then all I would have to do is adjust the top and bottom with my mouse and not have to type the left and width.
Thank you. I'm very new to this and find Gimp much superior to Adobe products.

You can have new images saved as default a particular size but I am not sure about selections or paths outside of a previous session unless you are working on the xcf from a previous session - not a new image.

1 - Click on the 'Rectangle Select Tool'
2 - Set the Size 'Fixed' and fill in the values 1050x423
3 - save the tool preset ( icon left bottom)
4 - You can load the preset by click on the orange arrow circle (second icon left bottom)

My first thought was same as denzjos - make a preset. see: https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-tools-presets.html
..and if you are using Gimp 3.0 that might be the best at the moment.
You say you are using Gimp 2.10. Another way is a script that makes the selection from a set of guides. Not difficult to add a few lines to the script to make and position four guides, create the selection, remove the guides.

If you want to give it a try, attached, unzip and put Guides-to-selection.scm in your scripts folder.
If you want to change the position or size, very obvious in the script, near the beginning.
EDIT: Just tried in Gimp 3.0.2 to see how many errors generated
..and it works OOTB - that must be a first.

This helps some - I can 'fix' the width but I still need to enter the Position/left. Thank you.
