Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-14-2018 I'm trying to create a logo/watermark with some text at the top which curves round the top of a circle. I've Googled my problem and found THIS page, 've managed to figure out how to get the line to follow the part of the circle I want the text to follow, but when I select 'Stroke Path', it puts half the text in the circle and half outside the circle when I want the text outside, on top of the circle. Is there an easier way or am I doing something wrong? I've included the .xcf file so you can see what I've done so far. RE: Trying to create curved text - rich2005 - 02-14-2018 Not doing anything wrong, that is the way it works. If you want text above the path put a return (enter) after the text (before gives below the path) screenshot https://i.imgur.com/fuIJEgJ.jpg An alternative is ofnuts text along path plugin ofn-text-along-path http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-path-tools/files/scripts/ near the top Using linux? The permissions are already set unzip and pop in~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins. Right click context in the paths dialogue. Does not use the text tool. Read the docs file that comes with it. https://i.imgur.com/FqcHFNa.jpg Using a circle can be a pain, an old video of mine showing some options https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y59JTjt-nLQ EDIT: To be honest, I would just add another path and adjust until correct. A curved path does not need lots of nodes. A node each end and pull out the handles to adjust is the best way. Keep the text 'box' tight ie. dynamic mode https://i.imgur.com/4yMqEHK.jpg RE: Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-14-2018 (02-14-2018, 04:57 PM)Espermaschine Wrote: I recommend installing ofnuts Text along Path plug-in, because its more convenient and has better functionality when it comes to getting the text exactly where you want it. I'll d/l & install ofnuts plug-in and have a go trying to create it how I want. I'm a complete noob when it comes to using GIMP. & Rich 2005, Yes, I'm using Kubuntu 16.04. However, I still prefer the regular Text tool with the ability to mix Fonts / character size / spacing / position... RE: Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-14-2018 I'm finding it hard to follow your instructions Espermaschine. I've managed to fumble my way to step 5. I can't understand your instruction of 'call up a selection from' ~ How do I do that? I think your 'tutorial' neds more specific instructions/screenshots. RE: Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-14-2018 Espermaschine I've ran through your instructions again and your use of 'call up' just means 'use' What I am having problems with is, where is 'text-path'. Sorry if I'm being vague, I hardly use GIMP. I could use what you uploaded for me earlier, but I prefer to try to do it myself, after all, that's the best way to learn (thank you, BTW), Here's a screenshot of GIMP. I can't seem to find the item you refer to in step #5 'Create a new transparent layer, call up a selection from the text-path and fill it with a colour of your choice. Then deselect ! Also turn off the text-path' RE: Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-14-2018 (02-14-2018, 11:34 PM)Espermaschine Wrote: Which you fill on a new transparent layer with a colour of your choice and then deselect and turn off the path's visibility. That's the part I'm struggling with, I can't figure how to do it. RE: Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-14-2018 I've just tried and something's gone wrong, why is the 'circle' yellow and not 'pooky2483'? Progress enclosed. I thought 'pooky2483' had been selected!!!! RE: Trying to create curved text - pooky2483 - 02-15-2018 I am unable to do it, could you see if you can do it with what I just uploaded please! |
