Want to do simple color change. - SoyTits - 03-08-2018 I would like to make these wheels black. What is the easiest way to do this? I have tried watching a few Youtube tutorials, but none worked for me. Do I need to outline the wheel? Or can I do a "color picker" type of change? (Change the silver range pixels in a selection to black) Thanks. RE: Want to do simple color change. - Ofnuts - 03-08-2018 This isn't a color change since there is no color... More like a luminosity shift. Below, quick job: - add layer on top - set layer mode to "multiply' - set opacity to 84% - paint over with black (you can make a selection to avoid spills) - adjust opacity to adjust effect. RE: Want to do simple color change. - Espermaschine - 03-08-2018 I did the layermask thing again. Not sure thats good enough. Make a selection of the wheels (either with the Lasso/Paths Tool or with the Elliptical Tool and warp the selection with the Shear Tool). Fill selection with black on a new transparent layer. Add a layermask with a grayscale version of the image to this layer. Adjust the layermask with curves to taste. [attachment=1520] I also had the idea to work with an inverted duplicate of the image to get dark rims, but i find making accurate selections between the spokes is rather difficult. Despite your mastery of Paths? RE: Want to do simple color change. - SoyTits - 03-08-2018 (03-08-2018, 09:58 PM)Ofnuts Wrote: This isn't a color change since there is no color... More like a luminosity shift. Below, quick job: I found this method to be very cumbersome. This way requires manually painting over the wheel with a brush. This would probably take me 20 mins to do by hand. And it looks like crap. Are you supposed to super ZOOM and just use a small brush and go around the lug nuts, etc? Is there a more automated way? Can't I just pick "replace silver with black" ? Also, what if I wanted to paint the wheels the same color as the car. Do I use the color picker tool instead of an RGB palette ? Espermaschine, How do I use the color picker? I am trying to fill the new circle layer with the color of the car. Espermaschine, I have no idea what a layer mask is. Can you tell me exactly what menu items I should click? Please restate your directions with exact menu steps? Big help! 1) I selected the round wheel 2) I chose color using color picker (I was on wrong layer) 3) I did bucket fill. Now, I just have round black circle. (It should be) Set the layer opacity to 84% RE: Want to do simple color change. - Espermaschine - 03-09-2018 (03-08-2018, 10:42 PM)Ofnuts Wrote: Despite your mastery of Paths? Ya. Because it requires absolute accuracy. You have to hit the exact border between the black and the metallic parts. Five times per wheel. Pretty much the same situation with painting over it, as OP complained. (03-08-2018, 11:50 PM)SoyTits Wrote: Is there a more automated way? No, Gimp has no simple way of doing this colourchange. Even accurately selecting just the metalbits is quite complex. Quote:I have no idea what a layer mask is. Maybe this method is too advanced for your experience level. A layermask is a tool, a bit like a filter. White reveals and black conceals. You can add a layermask by rightclicking on a layer and select the Add Layermask command from the menu and then paint on it to mask areas in or out. 'Value' with a high Threshold ?
