Opening an image problem - mes2370 - 05-11-2018

I've used GIMP for a year or so now and just downloaded 2.10. When I go to the File>Open menu and click on my D drive (where I store my photos in a custom folder) the Open window is blank. It does not show any folders, which it did in the previous version (I think it was 2.8 that I was using) that I would then use to navigate to the image I was looking for.

Any help as to why my D drive (and my SSD C drive for that matter) is not showing any folders to access?

Thanks for any advice.

Proving to be a common problem:

Try downloading/installing samj's portable version, no problems there: I can see any folder and open any image.

edit: not true, sorry, I can SEE all folders but in practice I worked so far only with my desktop...

Thanks. I will check those out after work.

So far i just got around it by File>show in file manager. Then navigate to image then right click, then open with, then select gimp

I have done a few tests, looks like it is an issue with the latest gimp 2.10 windows installer.

You could try uninstalling Gimp 2.10 then using the original installer

https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.10/windows/gimp-2.10.0-x64-setup.exe

or if you can live with it, wait a few days and there will probably be a new installer.
