Repeatable pattern - Tile function - Biggles - 05-24-2018 Hi, I'm trying to create a repeatable pattern using this approach: https://docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/plug-in-tile.html However, when setting the size for the new image (150 x 150cm) GIMP creates a new image approx. 625 cm Original image is 50 x 50cm or 5906px, 300dpi. Any ideas suggesting what I'm doing wrong is highly appreciated. RE: Repeatable pattern - Tile function - rich2005 - 05-24-2018 Not sure what you require. The tiles filter repeats the image as many times as you set. 50x50 (cm) you want 150x150 (cm) then Gimp can do the arithmetic for you. In either of the size entries use 50*3 then ok and you get a new tiled image 3 rows wide x 3 row high. example: https://i.imgur.com/BYByKop.jpg If you want a seamless repeatable tile, then that is something else. 1. Filters -> Map -> Make seamless gives a tile which fills like this: https://i.imgur.com/z4W3d0R.jpg 2. The resynthesize plugin (if you have it installed, do not know for OSX) makes a seamless tile that fills like this: https://i.imgur.com/1r7Vsmu.jpg ..but that is a big image you have for tiling, whichever way. RE: Repeatable pattern - Tile function - Biggles - 05-24-2018 Thank you for replying. I have a seamless image (50*50) that I would want to repeat up to 150 x 150. I have done as you describe in your third paragraph. However, even if the pixels triples the printing format has increased much more. https://imgur.com/a/kJRuY33 Top image is the original which I want to tile to 150cm. Bottom image is after I have tiled it to 50x3. Notice the scale in top image is 50 in bottom image is over 600. Pixels seems to triple but not the printing format. I assume, being new to this, there is something with resolution & size I have completely misunderstood? There is also G'MIC > Arrays & Tiles > Make Seamless (2 options) (If you have G'MIC installed.) All 3 give different results. No right or wrong, just different. First, make seamless Second, use Tile as per your first post. (But as Rich says, 5906px is large for tiling. 590 would probably be more suitable) RE: Repeatable pattern - Tile function - rich2005 - 05-24-2018 The new image uses the default ppi, whatever that is, maybe 72 or 96 ppi Using an image close to your size 50 cm @ 300 ppi as: https://i.imgur.com/6DXwLF3.jpg You need to use Image -> Print Size and set the horizontal and vertical resolution to 300 as: https://i.imgur.com/5QArWUb.jpg RE: Repeatable pattern - Tile function - Biggles - 05-24-2018 (05-24-2018, 11:47 AM)rich2005 Wrote: The new image uses the default ppi, whatever that is, maybe 72 or 96 ppi That's what I needed!
