Printing size? - OurJud - 02-12-2017

I'd like to knock out a few prints for friends and family and am looking for some advice on the size and resolution I need to be working at to give me a a print of 'wall-hangable' size (maybe 8 inches square).

I currently work at 600px square / 300 PPI, but converting px to inches seems to be far more confusing than I imagined.

Any and all advice very welcome.

For 8 inches @ 300 dpi:
8 * 300 = 2400 pixels
So you will need a 2400 x 2400 pixel image.

You dont have to do the math (although its good to know what the math behind it is).
Gimp helps you doing it when you set up a new document via the menu.

You can change units in the dropdown menu, and adjust DPI (Resolution) in the Advanced Settings, when you click the little plus.

Yes, Espermaschine is right. Gimp can do the maths for you.

1. Enter the image size - 8x8 inches
2. Enter the resolution - 300 pixels/in (dpi)
3. Gimp calculates the image size to be 2400x2400 pixels

This is also true in Image>Scale image...

Probably confusing the issue but my stab at covering the essentials.
