Can't connect to the gimp plugin registry - Ninilac - 07-08-2018 Hey, I'm a returning Gimp user and I'm trying to access the gimp plugin registry, but it seems to be down or something: it isn't responding. Did the website change? I'm trying to get the layer effects plugin and I can't find a download link from any other website... Link: http://registry.gimp.org/glossary/g Edit: oops, just realized this is in the wrong section, sorry RE: Can't connect to the gimp plugin registry - Espermaschine - 07-08-2018 these are the ones i have two python plug-ins and the scm version i always use the layerfx python (has a preview), but not the 2.8, because that one had a bug with layergroups the script version has no preview and works with layermasks, which i do not recommend if you want to do some advanced stuff RE: Can't connect to the gimp plugin registry - rich2005 - 07-08-2018 Could be that it is gone for good this time. You can sometimes get a script if you can search and find the script URL. Then paste that into the internet archive search which might, (but not always) get a result. https://web.archive.org/web/20180419104943/http://registry.gimp.org/node/186 but that is not guaranteed to be around forever. Often best way, as here, ask on a Gimp forum. Someone, somewhere will have a copy. RE: Can't connect to the gimp plugin registry - nelo - 07-08-2018 You can download the whole registry packed together by pixls.us from here: (Click on Clone or Download on the right hand side) https://github.com/pixlsus/registry.gimp.org_static HTH nelo RE: Can't connect to the gimp plugin registry - rich2005 - 07-08-2018 (07-08-2018, 10:02 AM)nelo Wrote: You can download the whole registry packed together by pixls.us from here: Thanks for that. Nice to know it has been saved. Before you want layerfx and jump in and download, the zip (157 MB) is a mirror of the web-site not just a collection of scripts and plugins. (Has been known that people use their mobile phones here ) So download it. Unzip to a folder somewhere. This in linux but should be the same for Windows (I hope) Find the sub-folder for the glossary. Open that in a browser (drag-n-drop should work). That gives a starting point for finding a file. (or open the index.html file then use the see the glossary link) [attachment=1906] Then just like any other web page. Under the 'L's an entry for Layer Effects, Right click to download. That folder seems to hold every plugin there was on the website. RE: Can't connect to the gimp plugin registry - rich2005 - 11-13-2018 Works ok for me. Just in case it is a Windows thing, Using Win 10 and Gimp 2.10.8 Check list: layerfx.py is in C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins Mossy bark texture.jpg and moss bark texture gray.jpg are in C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\patterns Tree_bark.scm is in C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\scripts You have your white on transparent active layer over the base layer. You bring up the Tree_bark script and with default settings the two textures are showing correctly. Ok the script, it runs & produces a load of layers. The only real thing I can suggest if you get that error is disable (rename as) the old layerfx.scm.bak edit: The layerfx.scm does work here but remember that it was made for Gimp 2.6 and hence a little flaky. Remember to work on a layer with transparency and if using text expand the text layer to the canvas size. Gimp 2.10 uses different layer modes, some thing might not work as expected. Layerfx.py might be a little better, same issue with layer modes. However it is a plugin that I rarely use. update: tin updated the tree-bark script in case it does not work on your installation. see: https://gimplearn.net/viewtopic.php/Tree-Bark-Script-by-Tin-Tran-Tutorial?f=10&p=21871#p4342 |
