Using text from other software - al.da.drone - 09-01-2018 I have been finding it dfficult to get to grips with Gimp regarding text. Anyway I have been having a go on Inkscape and the text option is a lot easier to be honest. Is it possible to import the text as a PNG file or JPEG into Gimp. RE: Using text from other software - Blighty - 09-01-2018 If you import the text as a PNG file or JPEG it will be bitmap ie no longer text. Not what you want. You can copy text from another program. To be safe, paste into something like Windows Notepad as this will strip out any formatting characters if they exist. Now copy from Notepad. Then with the Text Tool active in Gimp you can paste. RE: Using text from other software - rich2005 - 09-01-2018 Using Inkscape You can use a png from Inkscape. Use png format which keeps transparency, not jpeg Do not Save-as-png in Inkscape use the Export PNG File option. The important bit is determine the required size in pixels (remember Gimp works in pixels) before exporting. You will lose quality in Gimp if you scale up or down. Do not worry too much about the dpi setting, it is the size in pixels that matters. Might look like this in Inkscape: https://i.imgur.com/FkZYtyD.jpg and Opened as a new layer in Gimp https://i.imgur.com/601qopV.jpg However, always a however, the whole point of vector drawing is the format is scale-able up or down without loss of quality. Save your image as a .svg file. In Gimp it gives the option to adjust the size before the image is converted to raster. example: https://i.imgur.com/yRdKw4n.jpg RE: Using text from other software - al.da.drone - 09-01-2018 Thanks a lot for the advice its taking me ages to work out bits and bobs in graphic programs like Gimp and Inkscape but I'm getting there.
