how do I.... - HankB - 10-22-2018

Been using photoshop on mac for 25 yrs, stumbled on gimp (2.10.6) for my windows machine. In PS, open image, double click the background in layers, and it sets it to a layer in ps mode, then can cut out backgrounds, etc. and leave transparency. How can I do the same in gimp?

I have no idea what "a layer in ps mode" is.

In Gimp, you can out backgrounds and leave transparency even if the image has only 1 layer. Make sure that layer has an alpha channel. Right click the layer in the layers dialogue and Add Alpha Channel.

Otherwise, provide a better description of what you are trying to achieve, maybe with help of a image.

Thank you, that worked. PS mode is to photoshop what .xcf is to gimp.
