Is there a way to integrate de new JPEG compression algorithm developed by Google (Guetzli) to our little GIMP ?

Someone will have to write a plugin and if it is anything like the better-portable-graphics (bpg) only for decoding.
I saw this about it yesterday

Something they don't say about Guetzli is if it can be used as a "storage" format and not just for show. "Storage" implies that if can be edited further...
