Editing features overlap between Rawtherapee and GIMP - plumbergp - 06-30-2019 Installed Rawtherapee recently for editing raw nikon files. It can do a lot of things available in GIMP. Instead of using Rawtherapee first and then GIMP on editing an image, prefer to just stick to GIMP. If GIMP has editing work scope of 8 (0-10), where is Rawtherapee? Hope one day, one can import raw file directly into GIMP. Thanks. RE: Editing features overlap between Rawtherapee and GIMP - Ofnuts - 06-30-2019 RT (and others...) is a lot more photo-oriented than Gimp. RE: Editing features overlap between Rawtherapee and GIMP - rich2005 - 06-30-2019 It is a matter of personal preference. Ofnuts has a good point about the non-destructive capabilities of RT. However, in my opinion, both RT and Darktable have appalling interfaces, If you just need to get an image into Gimp then nufraw has the simplest interface. Unfortunately the standalone Windows latest nufraw package still does not integrate into a gimp.org Gimp (just tried it - NBG). The Partha Gimp 2.10.12 has nufraw already integrated. http://www.partha.com Something like this, Select image from Gimp, choose 16 bit output, ok it which then opens in Gimp (and a lot faster than RT) https://i.imgur.com/FOsZynh.jpg RE: Editing features overlap between Rawtherapee and GIMP - plumbergp - 06-30-2019 (06-30-2019, 07:51 AM)Ofnuts Wrote: RT (and others...) is a lot more photo-oriented than Gimp. Thus searched, studied and compared RT and Darktable. Decided on RT and installed it. Playing around with RT with GIMP. The handshake/link between the 2 is pretty smart and smooth. Impressed with RT. So my current plan is to use RT for raw files, do the basic image quality stuff (white balance, chromatic, exposure, noise, sharpen, etc) and then pass it to GIMP for other work like layers. Lots of tutorials to go through! Ha. RE: Editing features overlap between Rawtherapee and GIMP - rich2005 - 06-30-2019 Quote:....Thanks. Tried nufraw and it did not work with GIMP. It does work with Gimp see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-nufraw-for-Windows-and-Gimp-2-10-64-bit?pid=14097#pid14097 RE: Editing features overlap between Rawtherapee and GIMP - plumbergp - 06-30-2019 (06-30-2019, 01:17 PM)rich2005 Wrote:Quote:....Thanks. For others that might come across this thread. Nufraw will open a NEF file, just tried both Windows and linux. Best guess OP not using suitable version of nufraw. RT is a great application but for something lighter, there is always nufraw. |
