The main problem with building GIMP is that the goalposts keep being moved (dependencies changed and added etc.) I know that there is the flatpak version available but I'm not prepared to put up with the limitations this imposes. So I agree with you that it's a pity that Thorsten has stopped for the time being. RE: no more Kesselgulasch PPA - rich2005 - 07-02-2020 Also sorry to see Thorsten Stettin cease production, There have been periods of inactivity in the past, I hope he is ok and can continue sometime in the future. Just had a look at Mint20, I am updating my desktop OS and considered Mint20 in place of Kubuntu 20.04. However it is same as 'buntu 20.04, Gimp is 2.10.18 and missing gimp-python packages. That can be installed see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Heal-Selection-Missing-from-Gimp-on-Ubuntu-20-04?pid=18351#pid18351 to provide support for all those python plugins. I have not got round to checking gmic_gimp_qt yet but I assume it can work. There is the flatpak version which now has some install-able plugins to go with it. see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Linux-Flatpak-additions-official?pid=18838#pid18838 Also the Gimp appimage series which is the one I will use. Gimp 2.10.20 works very well. or Back to the old days and compile yourself, but all those .dev packages make for a cluttered installation and really I am not that much interested while there are still ready-mades's around. It wasn't just gimp, but it played a big part. It took a while to learn a new ecosystem of course, but I never regretted my choice. If you want to stay on the cutting edge, you might consider changing to an Arch based distro, or Arch itself. Manjaro is the most mature and supported AFAIK. Of course you could always build everything yourself as @rich2005 suggested. I went this route for a while but it was just too much to keep up with for myself. Whatever you do, DO NOT go back to the dark side! RE: no more Kesselgulasch PPA - programmer_ceds - 07-03-2020 (07-02-2020, 10:17 PM)akovia Wrote: Whatever you do, DO NOT go back to the dark side! No worries about that RE: no more Kesselgulasch PPA - meetdilip - 07-05-2020 I am lucky I joined this forum. I was told to use the App Image with works perfectly for me. With all the bells and whistles. I was using this PPA before. Sad to see it go. RE: no more Kesselgulasch PPA - SenlinOS - 10-23-2020 Thanks to otto06217 for his selfless dedication for so long. There is a new PPA now. By: Panda Jim The address has been posted in PPA post of the Forum: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Gimp-and-Gimp-Edge-PPAs-are-moving |
