Resolution - jaja9603 - 08-10-2020 Hi I'm looking for someone to improve the quality of a picture for me. It's for my DVD collection. I've tried a few different settings but nothing seems to work. Thank you in advance if you can help. I've attached the picture below. Jack RE: Resoloution - denzjos - 08-10-2020 Duplicate the layer Layer mode 'multiply' on duplicated layer Set the layer opacity between 35% and 50% Merge the two layers Use filter to sharpen : FX-Foundry / Convolution Matrix Presets / Unsharp Mask Use Colours / Curves to optimise RE: Resoloution - jaja9603 - 08-10-2020 (08-10-2020, 07:15 AM)denzjos Wrote: Duplicate the layer So I did what you said but I could only find the Unsharp mask setting and the curve one. Is there anyway you could download the image and make it any better, I'm just really confused by all of this. [attachment=4733] RE: Resoloution - rich2005 - 08-10-2020 What is the eventual use for the image ? Are you going to print it as a DVD box insert ? A DVD box insert is 273 x 183 mm and that for quality printing at 300 ppi = 3224 x 2161 pixels. Your jpg is 96 ppi a third smaller than 'quality' It is not impossible to improve it, denzos method gives a result. You will not find the FX-foundry script in Gimp, it is ancient for Gimp 2.6 The Gimp unsharp mask works just as well. The bit you are missing is 'Layer -> Duplicate Layer' then top of the layer dialogue set the mode to Multiply. Just under that is the opacity slider. Let us know if printing is a requirement and we can start from there. RE: Resoloution - jaja9603 - 08-10-2020 (08-10-2020, 10:53 AM)rich2005 Wrote: What is the eventual use for the image ? Are you going to print it as a DVD box insert ? Hi There, So yes I am printing this off and putting it into a DVD box insert for my collection. I put it all together myself which took a while but I don't understand pixels and resolutions and all of that. RE: Resoloution - rich2005 - 08-10-2020 OK, try this one, scaled up and a bit of tweaking. Too large to post here, so on dropbox. It is webp format (better / smaller than jpeg) open in Gimp. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vs9i1cauubdyxk7/apocalypse8.webp?dl=0 The very small text will never be recoverable. edit: Guide to resolution and printing https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Image-size-in-Gimp RE: Resoloution - jaja9603 - 08-10-2020 (08-10-2020, 11:27 AM)rich2005 Wrote: OK, try this one, scaled up and a bit of tweaking. Make sure once the image is in Gimp. Go to Image -> Print size and set the resolution to 300 ppi Check that the size is correct. [attachment=4734] Gimp is not the worlds best tool for printing. If you have any problems, then export that image to a png and use some other application. |
