How do I overlap two images? - ferguson1951 - 07-04-2017

Hello.
I have this image of a bar code and I have to insert it onto the image of the back cover of a book.
How do I go about it?
Thanks and regards

Typically you:

  1. Open the cover image
  2. Add the barcode image as a new layer  using File>Open as Layers
  3. Use the Move tool (Move) to move the barcode layer to the right place
  4. Perhaps use the Scale tool (Scale) to adjust the size of the barcode

To add a bit more

As with all graphics it depends.

What format is the barcode, png, jpeg, svg ?

Does the barcode have a background color, maybe white?

What is the size, does it fit naturally or does it need scaling?

Whatever the answer, With the book back graphic open, use Image -> Open As Layers to import the barcode. Then move that layer into position using the move tool (and for ease enable move active layer)

A couple of senarios, The barcode has transparency
1. There is a suitable place in the bookback graphic for it.
2. No suitable place, make a back layer for it, with filled area, put the barcode over that.
