removing background of image - JeeperMatt - 01-21-2021

Hi everyone, I used Gimp many years ago but am now quite rusty. So if someone could explain how I can remove a white background that would be great. I have tried but the image loses quality...TYIA

  • Select the background (wand)
  • Select>Grow by one or two pixels (the selection should include the edges)
  • Layer>Transparency>Add alpha channel (if disabled the alpha channel is already present)
  • Colors>Color to alpha and remove the white.

Pay attention to the existence of non-contiguous areas that are part of the background, as shown in the image below.

Using Shift also select these areas.
