Transition image from BW to colour - StijnDP - 01-24-2021 On the attached image, how do I introduce a gradual transition from left to right from BW to colour? I don't know GIMP very well... I have v 2.10 on Win10. Thanks! RE: Transition image from BW to colour - rich2005 - 01-24-2021 Could do with more information as to intent. Obvioulsy a banner, but what is going into the banner. On its own, you can add a black-to-transparent gradient to the image directly. example https://i.imgur.com/pnvxgDW.jpg If some sort of embelishment, it gets a bit more complicted. Duplicate the layer Destaturate the duplicate (recommend adjusting with Colours -> Desaturate -> Mono-Mixer That banner color is a bit washed out when destaturated) Add a Layer Mask `Layer -> Mask _> Add Layer Mask (White) to the duplicate layer. Fill in the layer mask with a White-to-Black Gradient. example: https://i.imgur.com/UiuzDM7.jpg A quick demo of that: https://i.imgur.com/6IqjeVS.mp4 All sorts of other permutations, most will involve a layer mask with gradient somewhere. RE: Transition image from BW to colour - StijnDP - 01-24-2021 Thanks for your reply, the images and the mp4. I would like to use the banner as a background image for text to be superimposed in order to show progress. So I'd like to start with the issue on top of a grey tones background on the left and end with the solution over a coloured background on the right. As the solution is a gradual one, I'd like to transition from grey tones to colour in a fluent way. Does this make more sense? RE: Transition image from BW to colour - rich2005 - 01-24-2021 I still do not really get the concept. It reads more like an animation that scrolls across than an individual image. However, more duplicates, desaturated layers and layer masks. This time with background and text separated into layer groups. [attachment=5544] Have to pack in for the day now, maybe someone will be along to give more thoughts. That goes onto the website, where I'll use it as a background banner and I'll add the text. So the video you created will do the job perfectly. Many thanks, no way I would have been able to create this on my own. |
