Please help losing colours - msmalik681 - 02-28-2021

Hi I have a issue with gimp 2.10 whenever I save a indexed image it will automatically cut any unused colours. Since I am developing games my images should all use the same palette or it will cause issues. Can anyone help please.

As far as I can tell when you "save" the image, this is an XCF and the full colormap is kept.

When you "export" to GIF, yes, the colormap is reduced to the used colors.

In any case you can export the colormap of your image as a reference palette (Palette>Import from image), and use it when indexing other images, or to reindex a GIF where the palette has been reduced (Image>Mode>Indexed and specify a palette, and don't formet to untick "Remove unused colors from colormap)".

Another solution is to have a small part of the image carry all the colors in the colormap (and crop it out at the end). You can generate this using my ofn-colormap-to-layer script.
