Make a part of the image bulge - meetdilip - 08-03-2021
Is it possible to make a part of the image bulge like in a 3D sticker ? Say there is a sword in the image, can we make it bulge out from the rest of the image ? Thanks.

Bulge ? Probably not for a sword. Maybe for a more rounded object like a ball. You need some sort of reference to separate foreground and background. Doors, windows, holes in walls are good with 3D bricks. At a push a picture frame. Do not inspect this one too close, I did not spend much time on it.

There are various possibilities. All that I know involve bringing the subject (the sword) out of the area of the background in some way.
As the denzjos example, use a perspective transform. The unified transform tool is good for this.
There are other possibilities, crop the background is one, or shrink it using something like liquid rescale. That is already there in your appimage.
Workflow might be.
Separate the sword from the background. You have a copy / paste. I use a layer mask
To prevent overlaps, remove the sword from the background - resynthesize / heal selection.
Then transform the background.
Reinstate the sword, which now projects outside the layer.

This is what I wanted to do. I used a layer mask (black) and selected the sword using the brush. Now I copied the brush out, gave the same selection a black colour in the layer below. Now I made the layer semi-transparent so that the blade now looks thick as if it is up vertically a bit. Thanks.
PS : I looked nice in column background inside GIMP.
I think blur works much better than transparency in this case.
