Free Select edit - zeuspaul - 09-18-2021 New to forum first post. Is it possible to edit free select while in progress or after? During a detailed tracing sometimes I make an errant click. Is there a way to back out of the last click and then continue without the last error? Or is there a way to edit the selection after it is complete? I can do this with the path tool. There are a couple of things I prefer with the free select tool. While tracing with free select I can see the last line as I go. With path the line doesn't appear until after I set the last dot. Also with the path function the dots are too big and can obstruct my view making it difficult in detailed areas. RE: Free Select edit - PixLab - 09-18-2021 Yes it's possible to remove some part of the selection But you need first to close the selection, then hit "Enter" Then in the option tool click on the button "Substract" (yellow arrow on the screenshot), then hit "Enter" once you've substracted The green arrow is the "Addition" mode (if you have removed too much for example), same as above hit "Enter once you have add a part of a selection The last but not the least, Never forget to click back on the "single" (normal) mode (red arrow) once you have finished, or next time you might ask yourself why the free select tool does not work as expected (those mode works (substract/addition/intersect) also with the Rectangle and ellipse tool as well as with the Fuzzy select tool, or any already made selection) [attachment=6707] RE: Free Select edit - Ofnuts - 09-18-2021 Also: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Painless-use-of-selection-tools RE: Free Select edit - rich2005 - 09-18-2021 As well as the various selection modes there is the quick mask where you paint in any additions / subtractions. https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-image-window-qmask-button.html https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-using-quickmask.html RE: Free Select edit - zeuspaul - 09-18-2021 Thanks @PixLab that was very helpful. I pressed enter and the editable nodes showed up! I have used free select many times and have never seen them. I used bucket fill with the selection as I have done many times before. Then I noticed where I wanted to make a small correction. I undid to only display the selection but the nodes were not there. Is there a way to recover the editable nodes? RE: Free Select edit - zeuspaul - 01-27-2023 I recently discovered I can edit a node while in progress. Simply hover over a previous node while the trace is in progress until it turns yellow and then drag it into the proper position and then continue the trace. The same procedure can be used once the trace is complete but before executing the next command.
