newbie add altered image to a layer - bbxrider - 11-01-2021 please see attached, I have a jpg image with white background, l think I made all the white background transparent and now want to add the altered image to the 2nd layer in the project, but can't make it happen. maybe this isn't possible? thinking it should be simple but after trying for over an hour, coming here for help. tried moving it, copy/paste it, add it, etc. but no luck yet. the attached pic explain it best I think RE: newbie add altered image to a layer - PixLab - 11-01-2021 (11-01-2021, 12:02 AM)bbxrider Wrote: please see attached, I have a jpg image with white background, l think I made all the white background transparent and now want to add the altered image to the 2nd layer in the project, but can't make it happen. maybe this isn't possible? thinking it should be simple but after trying for over an hour, coming here for help. tried moving it, copy/paste it, add it, etc. but no luck yet. the attached pic explain it best I think Drag the layer to the tab of an image, stay clicked ➤ WAIT... wait... once that image is showing up on the canvas drop the layer on that image [attachment=6960] Also you can have a layer representing the full image before to drag n drop, right click on the layer stack ➤ New from Visible ➤ drag this layer to another image RE: newbie add altered image to a layer - bbxrider - 11-01-2021 thanks for the help, doesn't seem to be working at least as I understood and expected the multi layer structure to be built maybe I have a basic misunderstanding of the layer concept see attached for result of the dragging and dropping, which I have tried with and without holding shift and layer to image and image to layer. I thought I would see the first layer above the base layer with the image with the transparent background showing in that layer, then I wanted to add more layers that would only contain text boxes and similiarly see the text boxes in those layers. then when selecting the base layer I would see the built up result with the logo and text boxes as a complete pic, similar to 2nd attachment see 2nd attachment which is a jpg, to be roughly the same pic but instead built up in gimp with 4 layers so I can export it in a print ready format and have the ability to make changes more easily than having to try and manipulate the jpg image RE: newbie add altered image to a layer - rich2005 - 11-01-2021 Various ways to add your logo: 40 second animation https://i.imgur.com/szUCT2e.mp4 1. Click and drag into a canvas using the tabs. 2. Click and drag into the layer stack using the tabs. 3. In case of problems. Save (or export as png) the logo. Then Open as a new layer You can of course copy and paste. 30 second animation https://i.imgur.com/CBHhHl6.mp4 While still a floating selected layer you can move into position. Best way is make that a new layer then move that. Want to move a layer that contains transparency. Use the move tool. Enable 'Move active layer' Keep an eye on the layer stack in case any of your 'maneuvers' places the new layer under the canvas and hides it.
