Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - Gimpquester - 11-04-2021 Looking at the two images attached, I would like to change the size of the dockable dialogs in the top row of image 1. Furthermore I would like to change the size of other parts of the interface like the top row in image 2, which starts with 'icons' of "edit this brush" on the left and ends with "open brush as image" on the right. Same goes for the row at the bottom of image 2 or the expand symbol in the second row at the top to the right (image 2), same symbol in the top row of image 1 to the right. Background information: I am experiencing an unresolved bug described in this link: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/5475 which results in an offset when using a pressure stylus on my Wacom Cintiq 16 on a Windows 8.1 operating system. This offset goes away when I change the "size of all items" to smallest in windows display settings. ie. drag the bar all the way to the left. Now I can use the drawing tablet on a 1920x1080 resolution without having an offset on my pen, but the interface in gimp becomes so tiny that I can feel my eyesight deteriorating in real time. So I was able to change the size of the icons like brush and eraser easily under "edit-preferences-icon theme" and set icon size to custom. Then I was able to manually change the font size in the gtkrc file as described here: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Character-size-in-menus-text-size Those two steps make for a much more appealing result already, but now that I'm at it I would also like to manually resize the other parts of the interface to have a full workaround. This would also include things like increasing the size of layers in the layers dialog and what have you, but adjusting what's specified in the images would make me happy. I suppose my objective can be reached by tweaking the gtkrc file some more, but just randomly increasing values after every "width" and "height" and "size" didn't quite do the trick so I'd much rather ask for the help of a seasoned gimper who might be familiar with the code. RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - rich2005 - 11-05-2021 The tabs take their size from the font size. It might be possible to increase the width of them, I do not know. Then for the rest, have you used the other available options ? Turn compact sliders off. Increase the layer dialogue size. Tools, this the brushes large size as a list. A bit tedious as you have to treat each dock individually (only once though) This maxed on a 1920x1080 monitor https://i.imgur.com/ODik6pF.jpg RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - Gimpquester - 11-05-2021 (11-05-2021, 08:19 AM)rich2005 Wrote: The tabs take their size from the font size. Do I have to a.) turn compact sliders off and b.) Increase the layer dialogue size in gimp preferences, in the gtkrc file or somehwere else? I found these options nowhere in preferences and am a bit overwhelmed by the gtkrc file. Also, please expand on what you mean with "Tools, this the brushes large size as a list." Sorry if this reply was a bit bothersome but I really don't understand. RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - rich2005 - 11-05-2021 Well, I used a plugin that changes the font size and also the (other) icon size, see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-UI-font-size-has-changed-Win-10?pid=22487#pid22487 for the link to GimpChat and the download.. It adds a gtkrc file to your user profile. Toolbox icons are changed from the Edit -> Preferences -> Interface -> Icon theme as https://i.imgur.com/PN7yFgF.jpg Sliders are in Edit -> Preferences -> Interface under Style > Use compact sliders as https://i.imgur.com/J0auoEt.jpg The docks have a common type of drop down menu invoked from that little left pointing arrow. Change size and layout for each individual dock. https://i.imgur.com/kvJjjyz.jpg RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - Gimpquester - 11-15-2021 (11-05-2021, 06:09 PM)rich2005 Wrote: Well, I used a plugin that changes the font size and also the (other) icon size, see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-UI-font-size-has-changed-Win-10?pid=22487#pid22487 for the link to GimpChat and the download.. It seems I have to readjust it everytime I open up a new gimp file. Can this be saved into preferences somehow? Thanks for your help. Specifically, I had to move the folders for the ClearLooks Light themes to another directory so Gimp could not see them to get the changes to stick. That has worked so far. - E RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - sallyanne - 11-16-2021 You can change your tool icon sizes RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - Gimpquester - 11-16-2021 (11-16-2021, 05:45 AM)sallyanne Wrote: You can change your tool icon sizes Yes indeed but that was not the issue (see my first post^^) RE: Changing the Size of dockable dialogs and more - HauntedGhost - 02-20-2024 As no new answers have been added since 2021, hence, the OP has probably found the right answer. However, if anyone is still looking for a solution, then I just found an extremely easy solution to update GIMP’s these by manually editing GIMP’s theme file. You need to edit the gtkrc theme file and make appropriate changes to change the text of the GIMP’s interface. Here are the steps: Change font size Close Gimp Open the file gtkrc of your specific theme in a text editor Open the Gimp themes directory: Mac: /Applications/GIMP-2.10.app/Contents/Resources/share/gimp/2.0/themes/ Windows: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\themes\ Ubuntu: /usr/share/gimp/2.0/themes/ Open the gtkrc file for your theme: Light: Light/gtkrc Dark: Dark/gtkrc Gray: Gray/gtkrc System System/gtkrc other If you have a customized Gimp, look here for the gtkrc file Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.10/themes Find line with: GimpDock::font-scale = 0.8333 Replace with: GimpDock::font-scale = 1.35 (or another value) [1.35 did the trick for me; you can play around with the value to find which one would suit your specific needs.] Start Gimp again I have taken this information from SuperUser.com; the original answer was posted by Charlotte.
