remove print pattern - Tawe19 - 12-05-2021 this is a scan from an old photo. [attachment=7188] the original photo had this pattern of dots throughout, i'm guessing that this was a 'feature' at the time. does anybody know how I might reduce or eliminate the effect ? many thanks Tawe RE: remove print pattern - rich2005 - 12-05-2021 Yep, satin finish photographic paper, does not scan well. There are various ways, scan the photo again upside down, invert the image, overlay on the original and use a layer mode. I use the fast fourier transform (FFT) and for this the gimp_gmic_qt plugin from http://www.gmic.eu You do need the latest version 3.0.0 https://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/gmic_gimp2.10_win64.exe because as well as FFT there is a very new denoise filter and a sharpen filter. The whole thing goes like this https://youtu.be/QzgYLRnc-_E duration a couple of minutes. Guessing that is only part of the photograph, you will need to experiment with the denoise and sharpen filters for best results. [attachment=7189] RE: remove print pattern - Tawe19 - 12-06-2021 Thank you very mush Rich. Especially for the instructive video. May I ask : what is the significance of doing a repeat scan ? (I suspect some new technique may be coming my way). thanks, T RE: remove print pattern - rich2005 - 12-06-2021 (12-06-2021, 07:01 PM)Tawe19 Wrote: May I ask : what is the significance of doing a repeat scan ? RE: remove print pattern - Tawe19 - 12-19-2021 Hello Everybody, This was my finished version. We required it for a family event, and were pushed for time. It looks so much better than our starting version. I could only have done it thanks to the marvellous help and guidance that I received here from the above members (Rich & Denzjos). Many thanks. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.
