Alignment Tool and Distribution - oshayh - 12-19-2021

Hey, I'm working on a new design with 5 logos stacked on top of each other evenly but the alignment tool won't work, what am I doing wrong?

For a starter, not enough information for a sensible answer Wink

How do you need to align the layers? Center them ? or Spread evenly in a horizontal (or vertical) line? With a margin or without ?

Centered and horizontal without a margin.

I confess the align tool is not one of my favourites. If you have a mixture of icon sizes it can be easier to set up a grid and manually move around.

However, using the align tool.
Align select a base icon
Rubber band the rest
Align horizontally
Set an offset (typically the size of the largest icon)
Distribute by side (left or right)
Image -> Fit Canvas to layers
..and if any small icons try: Layer -> New from Visible then Image -> Zealous crop

example using Gimp 2.8 :  https://i.imgur.com/GZ3AI3G.mp4

Edit: An alternative, (I see from an old post you are using 64 bit Windows)  You can get a Gimp 2.8 gimp_gmic_qt plugin here: https://gmic.eu/files/windows/

Then using the g'mic Arrays &Tiles > Montage filter
Montage type - Horizontal
Merging mode - Aligned
Centering -   0.5
Input layers -  All
Output Mode - New Image

Sorry for the late response, I meant to say vertical. I attached an example of what I'm going for below. Also Happy Holidays!

Did you actually try anything ? Horizontal or Vertical is much the same.

however

1. Open image with layers in order
2. If required crop layers
3. Use the  Align Tool
- Set Relative to Image
- Use the mouse to select the layers - this called rubber banding - items greyed out until layers are selected.
- - -Look for the small squares in the layer corners.
- Set the Offset
- Use bottom right icon Distribute bottoms of targets
4. Image -> Fit canvas to layers
----next bit optional----
5. Layer -> New from Visible
6. Image -> Canvas Size to increase the height of the image/
7. Bucket fill any transparent areas.
