How to add a magnification segment of an image to the original size image - fenpeppertree - 11-07-2017

I have an image I would like to add a magnification segment to.

In other words there is a small portion of the image I would like magnified then inserted in the image. Like a picture in a picture, but still retaining the magnification.

Is there a way to create the image (picture in a picture) so that when the picture in the picture when clicked on could open or enlarge itself?

AFAIK this is not a job for Gimp, more HTML coding.

but hang about, I am sure someone will give better advice.

Same as Rich, you have two images, and the 1st is a clickable link for the second. You can detect that you clicked on the PiP using an "imagemap". In a primitive way this is a second identical HTML page with just the picture changed, a more evolved technique would use Java script to change the initial page to replace the 1st image by the second (and change the link to another JavaScript that put back the initial image).
