Gimp 'Dust and Scratch' - warrentdo - 04-25-2023

Hello, its a question I have kept asking over the years.
Does gimp have a solution to removing dust and scratches from an image like Photoshop 'Dust and Scratch'?

Regards,

Warren.

Filters > Enhance > Despeckle perhaps?

For me, depends on the amount of correction required. Some scattered dust motes, then resynth/heal selection drawing in from all sides, scratches drawing in from top/bottom or sides depending on the orientation of the scratch. Both instances painting in a selection with quick mask.

For a more noisy image, worth looking at the gimp_gmic_qt plugin http://www.gmic.eu and the denoise filter, which quote-uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) to denoise images and is looking very promising.

All depends on the image: a before/after comparison

I have never had much luck with Wavelets ( haven't learnt how to use it yet.) But some people swear by them to get rid of things that shouldn't be there.
There is one in gimp called Wavelet- Decompose under Filters, Enhance and the plugin GMIC also has one under Details = Split Details.
Have a look and it may be what you want.
