Thumbnails after closing - gimp_thumbnails - 10-30-2023

Hello everybody,

I’m using GIMP 2.10.34 under Windows 11.
Everytime you work on an image, GIMP creates a thumbnail of this image and stores it… somewhere. From time to time, I want to delete these images but I don’t know how to access them.
I previously used GIMP 2.8 under Windows 8.1 : accesssing the thumbnails was messy but I knew how to do it :

C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\thumbnails

but now I don’t. Can anybody help me ?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe try in: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache ?

These thumbnails are not created by Gimp. It is likely Windows trying to "help". There may be even be a Windows setting for this.

Of course, it does not work, but thanks for your help anyway!

Typical M$ Windows  Wink   Hiding things from users, even with hidden files enabled.

Open Explorer and paste this in to the search (replacing your_id to whatever you use)

C:\Users\your_id\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\thumbnails\normal

Thanks for your detailed answer.

1) I made all hidden folders visible.

2) I used 2 methods to make sure that my user_id is    "Jean"
   So your line becomes:
C:\Users\Jean\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\thumbnails\normal
right?

And it still doesn't work. What did I do wrong?

RE: Thumbnails after closing - rich2005 - 10-31-2023

Absolutely no idea. I normally use linux where the thumbnails location is straight forward.
Probably some permissions issue with Win 11. That animation I posted is Win 10.

I did initially do a search for thumbnail using a utility from portablefreeware.com called "Everything" https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1479

might turn up something on your installation.

Here' what I'm doing now:
1) I go "by hand" to:
                                C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\

2) Then I ask for "normal" in this folder, the Explorer finds it, and the thumbnails are there. So, I have a solution, I'm fed-up with the whole thing, and I'll stop my investigation there.
Thanks for your help!
