Auto resize layer boundary after moving layer? - micha - 12-11-2017

Hi there,

I'm a little struggling with layer boundaries in gimp. Confused
Maybe it's because I'm more used to photoshop...

If I move a layer, the layer boundary does not contain the whole canvas any more. This seems very odd to me, because I can't fill or draw at the whole canvas anymore. First, I have to resize the boundary manually.

Is there a way to resize the layer boundary automatically after moving the layer? Basically I want the layer boundary allways fit at least the canvas... is this possible?

I'm using gimp 2.8 on windows

Thanks,
Micha

No automatic way that I know of.

You could assign a keyboard shortcut to layer-to-image-size for convenience.

You might consider just adding a new layer for additional painting, that way when you save your work as a Gimp .xcf the bit of the moved layer outside the canvas boundary is still there in case you ever need it.
