Enlarge for Website and Maintain Detail? - Connolly Music Creations - 08-01-2024

Is it possible to take an image from a video - like this shot - and enlarge to 1400x1400 for a website while maintaining the detail?  Obviously would need some cropping but really hoping to keep some detail.

In the video there are several nice shots. Is it possible to capture any of those from a video and enlarge to 1400x1400 for a website? Thanks again.

1400x1400 is not a standard video resolution. These are:
2560x1440    1440p
1920x1080    1080p
1600x900      Extra
1280x720      720p

Play your video in VLC (I only use open source) and take a screengrab with VLC. This is a common method. You could also convert frames from you video with ffmpeg. Rescaling from video can be done in Gimp.
Video format is ratio 1.777:1
1400x1400 is ratio 1:1.

That is stuff I don't yet understand but it looks like the solution I need.  Thanks for the quick reply.

How long would this take if my Gimp/VLC skills were fluid.  Is this like a half hour job?

This should get the frame grab.

Video resolution depends on hardware and graphics card. You can slightly improve the frame quality with G'MIC-Qt > Details > Freaky details or Mighty details. Smile

Thanks again.  Much appreciated.

For such an enlarge I would use Upscayl ➤ https://upscayl.org/ it's FLOSS, there are AI type options to try out depending the image, then I would compare or fuse/merge with one enlarged in GIMP to "lesser" the AI inprint.

If not sharp enough, you can use this plugin : https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Sharpen-Deluxe-plugin
