SD card - Jacvkamus - 08-25-2024
I'm new to GIMP so how do I locate my SD card images? There doesn't appear to be a way of navigating to the SD card on my iMac.

You just need to know the actual path. If you can spot the SD card in the finder, you can probably find its actual path in some Properties dialog. On recent Linux that would be in /media/{your_id}/ (used to be in /mnt/.
This said editing the files directly off the SD card isn't such a good idea; SD cards are not reliable storage (compared to SSD or HDD). Better make a local copy on the Mac and edit/save that.

That should be similar to finding a USB or other portable drive on your computer.
What I do with photos on a SD card, I have a folder called SD on my computer and put them in there before doing anything else.

this seems to be a very complicated way to access the images on my SD card. Previously I used to use Phtoshop and Affinity Photo where I could easily see the SD card listed as in the Finder! I may have to go back and use Affinity instead.

You can see the SD folder in Finder, does click-n-drag on an image file into Gimp (either the canvas or the tool box) open the image or raise an error message ? It might be a security / permissions issue with Mac.
No help to you, but in linux with SD card in the built-in card reader it is no problem. Your SD card is in a card reader ? or is it camera plugged into USB socket ? or wireless connection ?

Depends on the camera sd card. This one raises an error, so a copy into a local folder is needed.20 second example https://i.imgur.com/lZbvyVK.mp4 but again a different file manager and all works. Worth experimenting but by all means go back to Affinity.

I use Windows but maybe Mac is similar. Copy the files to an SD folder as previously posted. Then when in Gimp file open navigate to the SD folder. When you find the folder drag it to the list of folders. Then when entering file open the SD folder will be there and all you have to do is click on it. You won't have to navigate again.
