Clone tool - gmacari - 10-15-2024 Hi there I'm a complete newbie with Gimp. I'm trying to use the "Clone tool" to eliminate some text on an image. I'm using Gimp on a Mac. Here is the video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13zPKJFHNDzPvD-wQOC5XcKoxXDJSkPYP/view?usp=sharing Steps: 1: Choose the "Clone tool" from the menu 2: Select my clone area (white part of the image) and then click the "command" key and then "left" mouse click 3: Move mouse over the text I want to eliminate by pressing the "left" mouse continuously. Thanks Gerry RE: Clone tool - rich2005 - 10-15-2024 (10-15-2024, 08:17 AM)gmacari Wrote: Hi there You are on the wrong layer for cloning over the text. From the layers dock a (largely) transparent layer is active and you are cloning nothing to nothing. Switch to the layer with the text and try again. [attachment=12453] ...however...do read the Gimp docs https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-clone.html Bottom of the clone tool options is a section alignment. Only one option "Registered" clones from layer to layer or image to layer. That is not the option you need to clone out the text. Looking at the screenshot, looks like you could almost paint out with white. Edit: Do practise with the clone tool, try out the different alignment modes to see how they work. For that particular image, there is a slight gradient and maybe a better way is colour pick just above the text (Foreground colour) and ctrl-colour pick just below the text. (Background colour) Make a selection around the text and fill with the default (FG to BG) gradient. A 50 second demo animation to compare result. https://i.imgur.com/S1L92G3.mp4 RE: Clone tool - gmacari - 10-15-2024 (10-15-2024, 10:41 AM)rich2005 Wrote:(10-15-2024, 08:17 AM)gmacari Wrote: Hi there Thank you very much for taking the time to give such a detailed answer. RE: Clone tool - sallyanne - 10-17-2024 I know I'm late to the party but wouldn't it be easier to delete the text layer? There is no text, especially where OP is trying to clone is part of the image/bottom layer |
