Can you shift click multiple layers in gimp 2.99/3.0 ? - Newman - 11-11-2024
Hi,
I've been using Gimp 2.99/3.0 for a while now. I know you can:
- shift click multiple layers in the layers panel (very nice)
- and you can set the move tool to be able to click and select a single layer in the canvas
Just wondering if you can shift click multiple layers directly in the canvas yet? I haven't been able to do that.

I can not see a way to select multiple layers using the move tool on the the canvas either.
Maybe put in a feature request https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues
There is the setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options under the Move tool to set layer or path active. Only applies to a single layer. Maybe an option there to set for multiple layers required.

As abandoned with the 2.10 align tool, a rubber banding option.

Yes, if you have two layers (or more) selected (in layers panel) and press shift while moving.

Thank you, sorry for the late reply. I'm sure many have already asked for this feature so I probably won't bother them by asking again but I have managed to wrap my head around the new pythonfu API (
). So I might try that route for the time being. So far I've added:- a function to nest selected layers inside of a new group
- a function to add siblings of selected layers to selection
- and fixed bindings to set edit_mask (on/off)
edit: on second thought I've just looked into it and I don't think there's many people asking about the feature being available via the canvas specifically, so I might put in a request actually, thanks.
Also in the mean time I'll see if I can come up with some hacky way to do that. Shame there's not a getLayerUnderCursor() function of something in there though

Hi sorry, I was more so asking about being able to add multiple layers to the selection directly on the canvas instead of having to switch to the layers panel, shift clicking there and then swapping back to work on them. I've posted a small update in my other reply in the thread if you're interested
