Change Default Text - DarrellS - 11-14-2024

How do you change the default text in version 2.10.38 (revision 1)?

I would like my text to be bold without having to click the Bold button every time I create text.

I wouldn't need to do this but ever since Gimp updated on it's own to this version, my text has been so thin I can hardly read it. It looks like the same font but it looks different than the text that was created using the earlier version.

Did you select a bold character for your text ?

If you change the font in the Text tool options, it is made the default if you save the Tool options. This can be done on purpose or automatically when you leave Gimp (both solutions have their pros and cons). See here for more indications.

It all depends on if there is a bold form of the required font. Looking at my installed fonts, 99% come with a bold version.  However there is one where the old bold application in the font tool is the only way.

There was a similar request here:  https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-bold-text  and as far as I know nothing has changed.

If there is difficulty viewing the text it might / might not be easier using the old text editor, enable from the text tool options.
