nose job - Running_late - 11-26-2024
This is a work in progress. I am restoring an heirloom picture. The picture (on left) is from the 1940's and has many defects, with parts of the surface having scaled off. Because of the age, it might have been a B&W picture that was manually colorized. This is actually a picture of the picture which was still behind glass and hanging on the wall, so there are reflections.
So far, my strategy is to select an area using ellipse with feathered edges, copy it, and then paste it and move to the correct spot. And some spots were to take a sample of the color and to use a small paint brush.
I am having problems with the nose. It is hard to get it just right because of the shades of light and different skin tones due to contour of the nose. I think there should be a catalog of noses so that I can just superimpose a good nose there.
Any suggestions / comments on how to do the nose?

Just the nose.
Try:
Clone or Heal tool and remove that small blemish, end of the nose.
Make a selection of half the nose then copy and paste as a new layer.
Use the flip tool to mirror horizontally.
Move the layer to cover the other half of the nose.

Make the pasted layer the full canvas size (needed for the next bit)
Using the gimp_gmic_qt plugin from http://www.gmic.eu Apply the Blend (seamless) filter, adjust outer blending to suit.

Thanks Rich, that really helped.
There is some peach-fuzz at the hairline, making it tricky. I used a similar technique for the hairline, though I copied from the eyebrow and rotated it some.
