Help With Making a Splash Effect - Tygra - 12-13-2024
Hi there,
I am working on the following image.
I am trying to make a water splash effect around the tiger. To do this I am using the turbulent water image that is also attached. What I have done is I have used the clone tool using a water splash brush on the turbulent water image, and then brushed around the tiger to create the water splash effect. But it doesn't look that realistic. It's better than when I first started but it doesn't go with the image. Hence, I am wondering if someone could help me make this splash effect look realistic?

PS: I can't upload the xcf because it says the file is too large. So, I am not sure what I can do.

Find with google a similar photo, search wit ' animal run through the water'. Your effort is fine but the rings on the water are a mistake, it is better to use little spashes on the water arround the tiger. Also the bright color of the tiger does not match the environment. A little less saturation would be better.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I have to work more on the tiger matching the environment, but I am working on the splashes at the moment. Do you really think it looks fine? Also, would there be no ripples in the water like I have done. I used the the distorts/waves filter to create it.

As denzjos said the tiger colour should be diferent. Especially where the fur would be wet. Maybe darker?
Also I would try using a mask to bring out what water you want instead of clone.

A layer mask is a way of hiding parts of a layer from the layer underneath.

You paint on the canvas but with the layer mask active. For a white layer mask - black hides and white makes visible.
You have more time than I do and finding suitable images is not easy these days, nothing is free anymore, however I might go this way:
(1) Some image with a splash and a figure
(2) Clone tool to increase the splash and shrink the un-wanted bits.
(3) The foreground image added as a new layer
(4) A layermask added and top layer background painted out. (should have shown that top layer active, my bad)

edit: (was a poor reply, I can never make a meaningful description, try again)
I generally use a White layer mask and paint out the background. Black is the default FG color. Note that the X key swops FG/BG so it is easy to paint in / paint out.
...but it does not really matter, Using a Black layer mask, use White FG color and start uncovering the (tiger) image.
Easy to reset, bucket fill the layer mask with either black or white, whatever is best for you.

I do not really understand the question - layer underneath ?
Change the order of the layers - A quick example animation https://i.imgur.com/Nntu4Yz.mp4
But there are other ways, Maybe someone can advise.
