Select Tool Problem - micksulley - 12-18-2024 Running GIMP 2.10.38 I am having trouble using select tools, I suspect because I have done something wrong but I don't know what! I have attached a screenshot of what I see at startup. If I hover my mouse over, e.g. Ellipse Select Tool, I see the dropdown list with Also in Group, however I cannot click on any as the dropdown disappears as soon as I mover the mouse. Also if I choose a select tool I do not see the options that I see in video instructions. I have gone to Edit > Preferences > Tool Options > Reset to Default Values, restart, but it made no difference. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks Mick RE: Select Tool Problem - sallyanne - 12-18-2024 If you are having trouble selecting the tools in a group you can change it in preferences to no groups. (Just have the tools you use the most visible) Otherwise have you tried - Menu at the top - tools, selection tools and click on the one you want. You can get most of your tools from that menu and then there is keystroke shortcuts. By the way you didn't attach a picture that I can see Also I don't think you are doing anything wrong, I have had trouble with groups myself. RE: Select Tool Problem - Ofnuts - 12-19-2024 For the missing tool options, see https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Getting-the-Tool-options-back-once-for-all You can right-click the tool icon to pick another tolls in the group. Also, if you have a mouse with wheel, the mouse wheel cycles through the tools in the group. You can also select tools using Tools > Selection tools or better, learn the keyboard shortcuts for those you use often. When you select a tools like this, it goes to the top of its group. RE: Select Tool Problem - jakabasej8 - 12-19-2024 Check for Tool Options under Dockable Dialogs—could be off-screen. Full-screen might be the issue RE: Select Tool Problem - rich2005 - 12-19-2024 Same as sallyanne, there are other ways, the tools menu as previously mentioned (1) and a right-click in the canvas for a floating menu (2) and that little icon in the top-left corner (3) for the floating menu. I have now managed to restore it and get it all working, although I did have a few screw-ups along the way. Cheers Mick |
