Grid Pencil Misallignment - Abdullah2025 - 01-06-2025 The pencil tool does not allign with the tile of a grid even when the grid size and brush size are the same, except for when both are one. Instead on 2 by 2 grid size, the 2 pixel pencil creates like a plus cursor which spills out of the tile. I have enabled snap to grid on, but this still happens. Also I have tried various settings like changing the offset and spacing but they don't fix the problem either. How can this be fixed? RE: Grid Pencil Misallignment - Ofnuts - 01-06-2025 The pencil isn't anti-aliased, and the only brushes that fall exactly on pixels boundaries are the odd-numbered ones (because the smallest is 1, and the size increases by 1 in both directions). So you 2x2 brush is actually a fuzzy 2x2 circle which is thresholded. This said you can always configure an offset in the grid. So you 2x2 brush is actually a fuzzy 2x2 circle which is thresholded. I had forgotten that the 1. Pixel brush always operates as an odd number of pixels square - so a size of 2 gives a 3 x 3 square. To use the pencil tool to paint 2x2 solid squares: Select the "1. Pixel" brush for the pencil tool Zoom in so that you can see individual pixels Click in the 4 pixels to make the square Use the Rectangle Select tool to select the 4-pixel square Press Ctrl-C "Select/None" (this is important otherwise you will think that the new brush has no effect) "Edit/Paste as/New Brush..." Give the brush a suitable name (and a suitable file name) Set spacing to 1 Click "OK" Select the Pencil tool, set the size to 2 and you can paint 2x2 square blocks. Ignore what I said above about creating a brush - just select the "Pixel (1x1 square)" brush NOT the "1. Pixel" brush. The "Pixel (1x1 square)" appears further down in the brush selection dialog and can be used for squares of 1, 2, 3, 4,... pixels - without getting the cross shape. |
