Optical blur - ogogon - 01-06-2025
I know that in Camera Raw and Lightroom there is a functionality that immitting optical blurring behind a facet of depth of sharpness. I do not really understand how they do it without voodoo magic, but in general, they somehow realized it.
Is there a similar functionality in the GIMP? (Once again, I'm not talking about blurring the selected area of the raster image, but about the almost complete emulation of the move of the depth of sharpness.)

See Filters > Blur > Lens blur. Aux input acts as a mask (the black part is not blurred at all).

In the past, there was/is a compiled plugin focus blur that comes with lots of options. Old but still working (linux, kubuntu 24.04)

Then, as Ofnuts you can use the Gimp GEGL filter with a mask.

A good alternative these days, as a readily available plugin, is gmic_gimp_qt and the filter blur(depth of field)

I did not do a great job of making a mask, I usually paint in the shape of the foreground to keep it sharp, it is up to the user.
