right dock window gets wider - ntai - 01-12-2025

hi, i've recently noticed that when i work with docks hidden (tab shortcut) and close gimp in this state, after reopening and showing docks again the right dock becomes wider than it was. this happens every time i do before-mentioned steps and after some iterations it ends up overlapping a canvas entirely.
can you please help me with this? i'm using 2.10.38

upd. unchecking "save windows positions on exit" resolve this same issue but the reason is somewhere else and i'm still wondering where

Only reason I can think of is you must be moving it from the 'hot spot'  (the dots in the vertical centre between your canvas and docks.)
After you have set your gimp up the way you want it keep checked
'save windows positions now' in preferences - window management

but the core of this issue is that the dock moves on its own, and readjusting the dock / rechecking that option in preferences only brings a temporary solution

Can't help with that. There are a few options to check in window management unless of course you have another monitor; then there is another.

thank you, tried all of this but nothing really helped. i think i'll work without saving the windows position since it's the best choice for now.
i just wonder if this reproducible on others' environments because i have also checked it on different (also windows) machine and things are the same

Can't reproduce on my 2.10.34+ (Linux).

You can look in the sessionrc file in your Gimp profile, this is where windows sizes and positions are saved. This could shed some light on the problem.

found out that the right dock was getting wider by 197 pixels, which was a width of the left dock! changing that width also reflects on the added value

Yes I can reproduce that.

Probably your only solution is do not close Gimp with hidden docks (tab)
