Affordable Tools to Colorize Black-and-White Photos - Benjaminpaul - 01-14-2025 Hey everyone! I’ve been going through some old black-and-white photos and thought it would be fun to add some color to them. I’ve seen a few online tools that claim to do this, but I’m not sure which ones give the best results. Has anyone tried Hotpot.ai or any similar tools? I’ve also come across Supertool, which seems to offer a variety of file editing features. Has anyone used it for photo coloring? I’m looking for free or affordable options that are easy to use. Also, if you have any tips on making the colors look realistic and not too overdone, that would be super helpful! Thanks so much in advance—looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Easy to use is always a problem. So many graphics users expect a single-click-n-fix solution. That is not Gimp but at least Gimp is free in money terms if not in learning effort. There is a Gimp plugin gmic_gimp_qt that comes with hundreds of filters. It is worth installing. http://www.gmic.eu One of the filters is shown here: Recolorize https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-How-best-to-colorize-the-face-only-in-a-black-white-pic and there is another one, Interactive Colorize where you "dot" colours into the image. There is an example here: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/gmic-colorize-interactive/14752/2 Getting a good blend of colours really depends on a bit of artistic skill but have a search for suitable palette files especially skin tones. |
