Copy and paste seems to change size

I'm a newbie with GIMP, but can't find the answer to this in the manual. It's probably trivial.

I'm trying to use GIMP to extract parts of imported PDF files and assemble them into a new file. I imported at 300 ppi and created a new page at 300 ppi. But when I copy and paste the pasted image isn't the same size as the original. I've no idea what the original pixel density of the PDF was.

Is this expected behaviour, and how can I get the correct size for the paste?

I can not replicate that. All I can suggest is a re-check on your procedure, which reads correct.

Importing the pdf at 300 ppi. Once this is done the image in Gimp is rasterized and a pixel-is-a-pixel no matter what.
A new image with 300 ppi settings. Many of the defaults are 300 ppi anyway A-series for example.

For want of a better way, using the measure tool

You can also check using image properties or print size, ppi is shown there.

I think you're right. I think that I must have created the new page from a template saying A4 size at 200 ppi and manually changed it to 300. I suspect that this means that GIMP creates a new page 2/3 the size of an A4 sheet but keeps the pixel count the same. Sorry to have troubled you.

Also sorry for the late reply - I needed the music I was editing for a gig yesterday and didn't have any time.
