Path selection only copies shape

I'm trying to cut out a part of an image to make some stickers, but I'm having a problem with path tool. It just copies the shape and fills it with white. I'm not sure how to fix that, I'd appreciate any help.

Difficult to say without seeing all the steps you are doing.

In your image you have 3 images. The left one is your source image. Does this image have a white background? Maybe you have the wrong layer selected when you copy.

Steps would be something like this:
1) Create the path
2) Path to selection
3) Select the correct layer in your source image
4) Copy
5) Paste as new image
