How to undo changes after saving the file?

I tested changing the color of skin in a photo. Saved it.

Reopened the file, could not undo the color change I did earlier via "undo paintbrush" in the edit.

You can't undo after saving and closing a file. You can save using different names (eg Image01.xcf; Image02.xcf, etc). Then you can revert back to an older version. Or even copy a layer from an older version and paste it into the current version.
