Gold, Silver text

Can someone please tell me how to convert a plain text to Golden or Silver letters ? Will it work on non-Latin characters as well ?

Of course, there is no gold or silver paint in Gimp. You need to introduce some sort of shading, usually by applying a bumpmap. Does not have to be text, can be a painted shape.
