Exporting BMP in 8-bit format

I am using gimp 2.10.24.
I have a bmp image with 24-bit format.
I would like to export this BMP in 8-bit format.
How can i do that? The advanced option proposes only 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit formats.

Use Image -> Mode -> Indexed  with 256 colours and dithering if needed.

Export as a filename.bmp, the Advanced Options are greyed out. Depending on purpose you might need to toggle color space info on/off.

When i try to use my image converter that throws on me lot of messages: unknow color -{put here any integer number}
So, it doesn't work.

The older gimp has no such problem.

By the way, at Compability options, what should i do with color space information?
Check that or not?

Gimp 2.8 default had that option off (unchecked) so if you have it checked then un-check it. I find I need this off for some applications.

I don't know what could be the problem with converter, as i wrote the older gimp output had no problem.

Should I put a sign somewhere for the solution?
