increasing size of icons, tool panels, etc.
#1
I am very new to GIMP, I'm running it on my Acer Aspire Alpha 12 two-in-one notebook. I opened it for the first time just now, and the various menus (Tools, tool options, layers / brushes, etc.) are very, very tiny, so much so that I can't see them well, and certainly can't select them very easily or accurately.

Does anyone know how I increase the size of the text and icons in these windows/menus? Is it something I can do within GIMP or do I need to go it within Win 10, or?

Thanks, david

You can start here for some larger icons.

Larger menu text usually involves modifying the theme. I am sure someone will advise for Windows (10) use.

You say your OS is (other)unix, is that correct ?

edit: Just looked up the specs 12" display 2160 x 1440 - maybe a magnifying glass (only joking) I use a 14" laptop (linux) with a HD display (1920 x 1080) and the development Gimp 2.9.5 has adjustable size icons, menus can still be small-ish For Win there is a Gimp 2.9.5 at http://www.partha.com

Bit of an experiment for me. A comparison using Kevins Color-48 theme in a Win10 VM - best I could get is 1600x900 resolution but the comparison is still valid.

After unpacking the 7z archive, the whole Color-48 folder goes in C:\Users\your-name\.gimp-2.8\themes. The theme is changed in Gimp Edit -> Preferences -> Themes. After selecting the new theme restart Gimp.

For larger text, Upped the font size from 11 to 16 line 7 in the file gtkrc

Code:
font_name = "sans, 16"

hope this helps.

thanks for your help ... i will try downloading and applying this theme as suggested.

For the larger font size i don't know where to find the gtkrc file? There are eight 'sub' folders in the gimp 2 folder in the program files folder.

Finally, i am running win 10. 'Other' OS was a mistake. Yes 12 inch screen is small. This notebook/tablet combo is meant to travel with. Best, David.

So, i downloaded the color-48.7z and color-32.7z files but i don't know what to do with them now? They don't extract like zip files do? When i double clicked on one of them, i was asked to associate with a program, so now they are associated with notepad???

what to do?

UPDATE - okay, so i installed winzip, then unzipped the to files so i know have two folders: color-48 and color-32. What is next?

LATEST . got themes to load. but now where is file located where i can adjust font size?

Oh..You sorted it while I was preparing a reply Wink

It is in the gtkrc file inside the Color-48 folder. Use Notepad Edit the line indicated
