No pen/brush No eraser usable

Today i turned on Gimp, created a new document but i could no draw a line or erase but i was able to create a square using Rectangle_selection & Bucket. Re-installed Gimp did not fix anything? A setting ?

Is the opacity of the tool set to something more than 0 (if 0 you will see no effect) Perhaps post a screenshot that shows your tool options when you are trying to draw.
