Strange problems

Hi, over the last 6 months GIMP has been doing strange things.
Today I went to the 'open as layer' option in the 'file' tab and I couldn't see any of the image files I wanted to use.
They were there when I closed GIMP and checked in my documents.

I've also had big problems with the 'select by color' option in the 'select' tab. Sometimes when it does select, if it does at all, it won't deselect afterward. 

I have a Mac monteray 12.6.2

The lastest version of GIMP is installed, too.

Have you tried to refresh your gimp or restart it?
If as you said it has been happening for awhile make a new  profile for your gimp and see if that helps

With the select problem you probably have the wrong icon selected

Also a screenshot of your gimp tools / options would help others see what the problem may be.
Can you explain what your doing? I cant repeat it.
