I didn't need to hit enter as I didn't enter ffffff.
This is what I see when I open GIMP and click on the background area of the colour selection tool below the toolbar that shows the foreground and background colours. It should be white, it shows it as ffffff, but it's actually magenta. If I change the background colour using the picker and then click on the 'reset' button, it reverts to black and magenta, not black and white.
This is a development version... use at your own risk. Any weird behavior should be reported as a bug on https://bugzilla.gnome.org. Discussing it here is pointless since we aren't the Gimp developers.
